Lino Block (3.2mm thick)

Consisting of a thin layer of linoleum mounted on wood, Lino block is designed for relief printing, acting in the same manner as wood but providing a softer surface which can be cut with greater ease. Not so suitable for fine lines as wood, nor producing as many prints, Lino block can be used on a variety of surfaces including textiles. Matisse's linocut illustrations for Montherlant's 'Pasiphaë' (1944) show the great sensitivity of handling Lino block.
